Ice-heat-stretch-repeat - my new "diet", as recommended by the physiotherapist. Apparently I am not a hypochondriac, but I DO have an inflamed sacroiliac joint, which has caused all kinds of tightness in the right side of my body (including the piriformis muscle!) and nerve issues for the past six months. Needless to say, I have been taking it easy on the exercise this week (no spinning or weight lifting) and working on getting this inflammation gone for good! Deadlifts and any kind of flexion exercises are banned for the immediate future, but it's nice to know that I can continue working out. The best part? I wasn't prescribed any pills. Just ice, heat, stretches...and paying attention to my horrible posture. I should have listened to my mother all of those years when she told me to stand up straight!
And in other news: I am putting it out to the universe that after I finish my literature review for my thesis (which will mean I have finished 3/5 of my thesis), I am hightailing it to the Amazon online store and buying myself a Kindle! And by "buying", I mean using a gift certificate. But a Kindle should be on its way shortly :)

My piriformis muscle has been, well, a pain in my butt for a while. I stopped running (thinking it was a gait problem) and substituted it with spinning/interval strength training, but my piriformis pain is still lingering. I finally made an appointment with a physiotherapist (after several doctors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and chiropractors) and I am thinking about making the switch to a stand-up desk:
Hacked IKEA furniture? Amazing! The great thing about this desk is that you can pull up a bar stool if you get too tired.
I'll see what the physiotherapist says, but working from home/being a grad student has not been kind to my right hip flexors, and I'm willing to try just about anything - even if it means pulling out my old IKEA tools and visiting the hardware store for some nuts and bolts ;)

I have been taking a photo a day since the start of the year in Instagram (and obviously blogging all of them, hardy har har), but I have taken sooooo many photos of lemons that I think it's time to have some kind of non-lemony direction.
I can't promise I will be faithful about my blogging of these photos day by day, but I will be faithful to the project! Maybe we can compromise, Blogger - how about I post my photos once a week?
